Class Evaluation

1. What I liked about this course was that I learned how to apply what I do in my life into what we learn. I learned about a lot of things that I never really understood. I liked how all of the lessons led up to one another. It was like, "Here's one lesson, now here's the bigger picture."
2. I didn't like the grading system. At the beginning of the semester if you missed one assignment it would bring down your grade by a lot and it would take a while to get back where you were at.
3. I would say that the class doesn't need any improving. We are learning at a good pace and the material is easy enough to understand.
4. I think the highlight of this class was that one time I told Mr. Haymore to run Jordi over with his car. I felt like we actually got to know him so it helped me look forward to coming to this class.
5. I believe I really did my best. There was just some lessons that took me a while longer than everyone else to understand but other than that I was able to keep up with the work.
6. I am trying to learn the concepts of computer science. By doing this I know I will qualify for college credit.
7. Yes, I am reading my life planning goals journal. I feel like it has helped me keep up with my plans throughout this semester. It is a reminder of what I want to do with my life so reading it encourages me to go to school.
8. I am committed to being the best version of myself. I know that this is the only way I will achieve my goals no matter how high some of them may be.

Ben Carson

Ben Carson is a successful neurosergeon with humble backgrounds. He is the only person to successfully seperate siamese twins. Over the course of his career Carson has made several medical advances for the neurosergical field. He became the man he is today because of the work ethic given to him by his mother who worked three jobs at a time to take care of her family as a single mother. After finishing high school he went on to study at Yale then to University of Michigan Medical School. Technology Carson used that impacted his Arete experience could have been MRI's which are used to see inside the body. I think what Ben Carson did was revolutionary. Not only did he become the first person to perform thesse procedures but he was also a black man. At the time he was studying this could have hindered his Arete experience but it didn't. Instead of staying in the hole of poverty he made his life better by studying.

Roger Bannister

Roger Bannister was the first person to run a four-minute mile.Bannister didn't really train. He was probably just a good runner. The technology that might have impacted Bannister's record breaking run was technology to tell time, like stopwatches. From this I learned that some people are naturally good at things while others may need to practice.

Mikaele Oloa

Mikaele Oloa is a successful fire knife dancer who had won many titles at a young age. He first began to train in fire knife dancing at the age of five with his father who is also a competitive fire knife dancer. The technology that may have affected his achievements are things like planes. Many of his competitions were not in Hawaii, which is where he is from, so he has had to travel to get to several different places. I believe that this experience is like any other success re the person worked hard and because of this got what they wished for. Of course I do not believe it was a simple task to so because he has to handle and fire. I know because of this all of his success as a fire knife dance came from all of his hard work.

Nathan Sawaya

1. Nathan Sawaya is a renowned brick artist who uses LEGOs to create sculptures. He is recognized as a LEGO Master Builder and a LEGO Certified Professional.
2. Sawaya achieved excellence by working hard. He gave up his job as an attorney to follow his dreams which many people are afraid to do.
3. Technology that might have impacted Sawaya's experience was television. This spread the word about his art exhibit and brought him to national attention.
4. I think that his story is very inspiring because not a lot of people can say that made a career out of the thing they enjoy doing.

Alex Hattori

1. At a young age of 12 Alex Hattori became the junior yoyo champion of america. He now has so much fame he was asked to be in a One Republic music video. Hattori is now sponsored by a large yo-yo company.
2. Alex started performing with a yo-yo and perfecting his art since an early age.
3. What impacted Hattori's career was the music video he was in which garnered him a lot of attention for his skill. 
4. What I learned from this is that skills take time and a lot of practice to perfect. I can apply this to my life by practicing the skills I want to perfect like essay writing and my math skills to become an arete student. 

Margaret and Carl Karcher

1. Margaret and Carl Karcher started from nothing. They started a hotdog stand on a loan which they eventually turned into a multimillion dollar company, Carl's Jr.
2. The couple borrowed money against their car. With that and all the cash they had on hand they started up their business that started off as a hotdog stand that also sold tamales.
3. Technology could have impacted their experience because of the way advertising has evolved. Nowadays advertising is the only way to get a company out in the public eye. Before it was just a hope that someone would buy from you.
4. I think that it's cool that they have a rags to riches type of story.

Mia Hamm

1. Mia Hamm has set many records in her lifetime for soccer. She has been named one of the best living players by FIFA and awarded the FIFA World Player of the Year. Until 2013 she held the record for the most international goals. towards the end of her career hamm even participated in the Olympics and won gold medals.
2. Through many years of practice Hamm was able to perfect her talent. Besides that she had to work well with her teammates otherwise she wouldn't be where she is today.

Luke Aikins

1. Luke Aikins is a professional skydiver, BASE jumper, pilot and aerial photographer. He holds records such as highest jump without a parachute.

2. Aikins has been skydiving since he was 12 so he has had a lot of times to prepare for his record breaking achievements.

3. There is a lot that goes into skydiving. There needs to be constant contact for the records Aikins broke. They needed to be talking in real time so that he would be safe.

4. I learned from this research that you can make great achievements no matter what your age is. Luke was already older when he set his record and he was still able to do it. It shows that patience is a good quality to have when seeking excellence. I also learned that when you have a set goal you can achieve anything.

Marvin Goldstein

1. Marvin Goldstein is a well sought out pianist who has performed in various countries. He is even named a Who’s Who in music.
2. He achieved excellence by going to school and perfecting his practice.
3. Technology could have impacted his arete experience in the way that nowadays people do not have to go to a special school to learn how to play instruments. If he were from this generation he could have just looked up a tutorial.
5. From this I believe I have learned that it takes dedication to achieve greatness. Goldstein went to school and continued learning even though he did not have to.
